From 1840 to 1920 Matchstick Safes were being made and collected by many. Their function was to hold matches that could be struck along the bottom of the safe to light cigars and cigarettes. These safes would be kept in women's purses and men's slacks or vest pockets. Most all of these safes still remaining have monograms.

From my antique collection, I am currently repurposing these safes into beautiful, adjustable necklaces and statement pieces.
